landscape

learn to create an edifice of stardust, roots in dark quicksand-
there is always as much to climb as it is to descend,
a constant rise and fall to the melody of the stars

this tree of life hums quietly to itself, its branches surrendering to the fabric of the skies
while roots dig deep into the core below
so are we, my love, so are we-

stretched between wasteland and infinity
our words the tools that could direct these clumsy manifestations
instead we use them to destroy, perpetuate a science of defeat

come on and rise

in silence, i sing to my spirit to be bare and weightless
return to the body it deserted, renounce this alchemy of fear

go easy on me, you know these chains of sorrow are plucked in deep
the spark that ignites them is still buried at your core

and i sing, voiceless, to the land i call my home,
nameless with a melancholy of perfection

recessional

the breaking points that you were architectured with
they hold, precarious, the structure of your downfall
always in possibility, a ghost sine wave
riding the marrow of your days

the tides overthrow you
watch out, fragile wanderer, for the storm beneath your skin
you're searching for an accident to throw you in the straight heart of things
your hands are restless, too weak to climb this ancient tree
you are okay, you are okay
barely floating, okay
your head too light, defying gravity, until your feet touch the sky, okay
your words hanging heavy in your mouth, too small to hold every drop of meaning
your tongue tied to your almost lover's
okay

wake up to a dawnless day
a picture of emptiness in a body you don't know
i am mine, i am mine
staccato steps and falling eyelids, mine
hands that have yet to learn how to create, digging through the soil
they only find air
mine

there is an ocean of silence at the heart of me
my blood could be made of blinding light
if only i could grow roots in this foreign earth
or weave myself into an embrace, transparent to the ones i love

persuade me to be alive, build me an anchor to the sun
fire me up to the soul of that last star
but first, gift me back to myself

repause

fall asleep at the bottom of a river with your eyes open wide,
oblivious to the savage tides above.
fall into the arms of the sea like you fall in love-
this gentle current keeping you below,
safe from the wounds that breathing can bestow.

a quiet interlude to another world,
the sun playing through the water,
your hair a halo around your head
like you turned into a madman, or a saint.

here you can fall and never stop,
weave these nonsensical patterns to a halt,
change the course of rivers to the wasteland of your heart.
here you can be and not ask why.
soft ground beneath you, lullaby.

oblivion

you are a whirlwind, a storm
subsiding unto itself, crashing unfolding
its wild tendrils reaching out to bite,
oblivious to
the beauty they create
the void at your core speaks static,
darkening your edges, painting black
the corners of your vision; entranced, you listen,
enthralled, you give in
unaware, you wrap the waters around you,
dancing in their centre with spasmodic grace
everything you touch turns to
just what it was before it knew you
but touch me, and i will freeze
to keep the memory forever
